Momseye: A Free Baby Monitor App That Turns an Old Phone Into a Camera
Updated
Momseye turns the old phone sitting in your drawer into a baby monitor. No new hardware to buy — and, most importantly, we don't keep footage of your baby's room on our servers.
Why we built it
Home cameras have been hacked and their footage posted on overseas sites. A server glitch once showed thousands of people thumbnails from strangers' cameras (home camera leaks, explained). However strong your password is, video stored on a company's servers is one more door into your home.
So before any feature, we decided to cut down the ways video could get out:
- Video is never stored on our servers
- The stream is encrypted, so no one in the middle can watch it
- Event recordings (PRO) are saved on the camera phone itself, not in a cloud
What's free
Start right after signing up — no credit card needed.
- Full HD 1080p live view
- Motion and sound alerts
- One camera, watched from two phones at once
- Portrait mode and quick clips to share
To be upfront: the free plan shows ads. In exchange, there's no hardware to buy and no subscription.
What PRO adds
PRO comes as a monthly or yearly plan, and yearly costs less than paying monthly. The price for your country is shown in the App Store or Google Play. Cancel anytime.
- 4K ultra HD
- AI cry detection that tells your baby's cry apart from other sounds
- Up to 5 cameras, watched from up to 5 phones at once
- Automatic event recording — moments that trigger an alert are saved on the camera phone so you can play them back later
- Time-lapse — a long stretch of time condensed into a short video
Get started in three steps
- Plug your old phone into a charger and connect it to Wi-Fi
- Install Momseye on both the old phone and your own phone, and sign in with the same account
- Set the old phone as the camera and your phone as the viewer — that's it
